I have a big weekend planned and I am excited, the camera is charged the iPad is charged and I am taking the charger with me, so I am charged
Well this week we had the second workshop at the Aboriginal cultural centre. Great speakers, understood even more and now have one burning question that I just couldn’t ask as I don’t want to come across as disrespectful to our hosts.
That is the subject as portrayed constantly by the media of Aboriginal sex abuse. I understand that part of the culture is that the girls are married young, it was spoken about briefly as was the stolen generation and the loss thereafter of there culture and the focus on trying to restore it
However in the The West Australian Tuesday the 31st of July is an article by Jane Hammond about Dr McGlade, who is a human rights lawyer and victims advocate. Who has apparently made powerful enemies particularly amongst Aboriginal men in her fight to expose the abuse in Aboriginal communities, she says that the sexual abuse of Aboriginal women and children has been normalised and hidden under the cloak of culture.
Now onto brighter things, this morning I have reflected on my shoe collection and the amount of shoes I don’t wear but do continue to hoard. Brittany says I am not allowed to buy any more unless I throw some out
I attempted to do that, I buy, I set aside a pair for the bin, then I retrieve, it is such a horrid guilty cycle, so I find myself trying to validate my actions!!!!! Doesn’t work does it
I am very excited for Monday as Amanda is going to help me fix my blog site, she is a legend
