So come on our journey to Margaret River, the best bit was the Wine Tour on the Saturday and our friends who are great company, but let’s got Friday over with first.
We had a fabulous weekend in with two great friends, DTB and LOL, lots of laughs. We drank lots, ate lots and brought lots, I personally contributed to the Margaret River economy by bringing home 28 bottles of wine!!!!
|Where we had lunch the beginning of a very expensive weekend|
Our first stop: This was the Pilandri Winery, they still had some of their wines but have reinvented themselves, I think the original winery from memory went under. We stopped here for lunch, Michael had tried to stop at a road house for a pie and milk coffee, originally, that wasn’t my idea of a decadent weekend. We left home at 10.45, which wasn’t bad since I wanted to leave at 10am.
After lunch of course you need to find some sweet’s to be able to continue the long journey of approximately 30 minutes to your apartment, you can’t go past the Candy Cow (milk bottles, liquorice all sorts, chocolate peanuts) & Margaret Riviera Gourmet shop (crackers, relishes).
There were in Cowaramup these plaster cast cow’s every where, I think they are looking for a prize like Queensland who has the largest Pineapple, I know there is a Koala, a Lobster, a Sheep spread around the country. Cowaramup is definitely in their league and good luck to them, they have my vote

We stayed at the Darby apartments, which we have stayed at before, though now I think they need an overhaul, the great thing about them is that they have a reverse cycle air conditioner in the bedroom and the living area, and at this time of the year you need that as Margaret River’s winter has quite a bite in the air, reminded me of winter in Melbourne.
Once settled, fed and rearing to go, DTB and LOL arrived so we went for a wander up the street and fell into the Margaret River Hotel to while away the evening.
Here is where LOL made her first mistake, sitting in front of the fire we downed a bottle of wine between the two of us while the boys had a fair few pints. We then progressed to a table where LOL said we should get another bottle, we suggested that maybe we could just order by the glass.
Alas no, LOL wanted another bottle, a commitment she regretted the next morning. LOL stands for Loud Orange Lady, as the weekend progressed we got ourselves new nicknames. As Lynette was wandering up the street we noticed you couldn’t miss her as she had on a beautiful orange coat and was recognisable from miles away we suggested she could get away with that jacket on the mines.
The food took ages to come, so we got louder as the evening progressed, if they were smart they would have fed us earlier, then LOL wouldn’t have felt so seedy, I fess up I was a little seedy too but overcame the seediness after some good coffee and greasy food compliments of the Dome for breakfast.
And so ended the first day. More to follow
