I don’t know how this works, well I do and I may be a bit sensitive, but here we go
A trainee who is very impatient to commence an OSH traineeship has been visited by the Apprenticentre, for a sign up. Once the contract has been approved I become her trainer. The contract is for two years, I can complete her contract sooner, possibly by 6 months as 4 units are to be credited for a prior qualification that the trainee has. Yes that bothers me to, as she can select other units and complete all 8 as required, rather than credit from another qualification (feels like cheating to me)
To satisfy the potential trainee, (who is very keen to start) I commenced training on a unit and advised that once the paperwork was through we could commence further. Clearly I already have compromised myself by delivering earlier than I should to keep her satisfied.
There lies my first mistake!!
The potential trainee has been asking for the delivery of another unit for some weeks now, however the contract has not come through. If I continue to deliver; the trainees dates will be all up the whack and I will have to fudge (forge) the dates. As you cannot train before the contract has been authorised
Not wishing to compromise my ethics and credibility as a trainer I won’t deliver any more units until the said contract is authorised
In the meantime this potential trainee has advised my manager that she will withdraw from the qualification as the timing of the delivery does not suit. (By the way we are training her for free, aside from administration costs) This I see as bullying me into delivering units before I am meant to.
Am I being sensitive or old fashioned. Should I get with the program or not, do I compromise my ethics to satisfy or not?
Well that put a dampener on my weekend
