My friend and I went to the launch of Judith Lucy’s new book titled Drink Smoke Pass Out, thanks to the Beaufort Street Bookshop, $22 dollars a ticket, sign up at the shop or on line for their newsletters, as they have lots of great events re book launches, especially cooking books. I haven’t been tempted with one of those yet

A great Wednesday night out at the Astor Theatre in Mt Lawley, started at 6.30 for drinks in the upstairs lounge, then ushered into a private screening room, didn’t know there was one. When you are upstairs the private room is through the door on the right side of the bar. Intimate room with tiered seating so you got a great view of Judith and 720 ABC’s Gillo who conducted the interview, the event also included time for questioning, it was very informal
As Judith is discussing her book and it’s contents, during a serious moment, (the theatre is silent) unfortunately for one young lass. who was sitting in the front row not far from Judith. Talking about her dear departed mother, this lass’s bag fell on the floor; to the sound of an all mighty clunk. The contents proceeded to fall out of her bag only to be displayed almost at Judith’s feet.
Judith paused and very calmly said something like, ‘well that was the end of that intimate moment’ ( I think she was saved from revealing too much)we were all laughing and feeling empathy for this poor embarrassed girl who was apologising profusely. Judith looked down and noted that a libra tampon was amongst the disgraced items. She then proceeded to pick up the items and hand them all back, making special note of the tampon, the embarrassed girl was still apologising. (this has got to be your worst nightmare)
Anyway Judith is Perth raised and born, attended Santa Maria College, raised in a strict Catholic environment which is where she gets a lot of her content for her show. Judith didn’t discover till she was I think 25 that she was adopted, both of her adopted parents had passed away 10 years ago, her adopted mother 10 months after her adopted father, she does have a close relationship with her maternal mother who lives in West Perth.
Judith’s book is she says similar to the book Eat Pray Love, she says she wrote her book before that load of rubbish came out. The link is Judith has embraced Yoga. During question time one young woman asked for a hug, awkward moment, as Judith said she didn’t do touchy feel things but obliged.
After the event we went to Grill’d for a burger. They are awesome
I tried to pick it up to eat, very un-lady like
Second attempt, knife and Fork job
Very filling, great selection of burgers. My only beef (get the pun) is that they don’t have fish burgers
Opposite there is a gallery that have some great art work, so of course I took a photo of this beautiful bear. I won’t even gestimate at how much it was to purchase
He doesn’t look particularly friendly does he
What a great mid week night out, we were home by 9.30pm
