This is so something I want to do again
Perhaps by myself when I don’t feel so much pressure to stay dry and upright, those days of visiting parks and beaches that we have left behind will be returning if I have my way.
Foolish to have waited so long
So many things we no longer do, now that the children are adults and have lives of their own and don’t always want to play with the grown ups.
Our family weekends were taken up with their sporting activities, playing at an elite level doesn’t allow you the time to indulge in many recreational activities. Out of sporting season were spent at sports camps and drill workshops along with many many hours of practice.
So I tell myself, what a fool I have been
We should have soldiered on picking up the pieces along the way, their bodies and minds exhausted from training, weekends competing or weekend long games. But they needed their sleep to recover and recuperate from injury. Once while we were in New Zealand I had hoped that Sam would go down the river in a fast raft but her back was too sore and she didn’t want to jeopardise upcoming competitions, so it’s not like I didn’t try. Competitions were to important as is winning a place on your team.
Our eyes, bodies and minds weary from running around from one stadium to the other
Wrapping up and protecting injuries of the heart and the body
Seated in the audience body tense watching every point being made working towards a win
My shoulder and neck tight, my head and heart pounding, congratulating them on a job well done
Comforting a loss celebrating a win
Celebrating being in a team, and giving it your best shot
- Time now to make up for regrets of my own making
- Not listening to those who are pessimistic
Not wanting to spend every weekend home whilst others whittle their time away
I want to smell the ocean, feel the fresh air on my face, embrace some challenges and learn from opportunities I am making for myself
Stand Up Paddle boarding was a first for me, fun. There were those that said I wouldn’t like it, well I was up and on that board remaining upright before passing the baton so to speak to the next person, for it was a brief encounter and left me with slightly achy inner thighs two days later.
The experience gave me the confidence to go it alone next time
I will book again, maybe someone will tag along with me
I can’t believe on the same day after years of doing nothing I achieved two milestones in the one day.
SUP and kayaking. Now these two kayaks have lived at ours for a few years and I never thought to have a go, they belong to Matt and Sam.
One try and I’m hooked, so much easier to manoeuvre, more control, you move faster through the water feel more confident encased in a little tub with a seat that has back support.
Now that these kayaks are living at our place I need to find myself a trolley so I can reach the river unaided and in one piece.
My fingers will be flying across the keyboard as I search for one.
Lesson learnt don’t let life pass you by.
