I know I can be truly evil, I can’t help myself, more fun for me that way
Have we had enough of cars yet, that would be no I hear you shout. Well I may be seen that is if I am not slouched down so low in the seat with barely the top of my head showing in a car that I have nicknamed FANTA.
Incidentally FANTA was the only soft drink I could drink as a youngster, which makes me think that yes-odd things do happen. My friend has also reminded me that another name could be Jaffa, those orange coated chocolate sweets that I used to roll down the wooden aisle at the local cinema on a Saturday afternoon. Another pleasure was sitting in the upstairs seats and chucking them on unsuspecting kids below. Well why wouldn’t you when you leave a bunch of unsupervised kids in a theatre generally viewing porn as the pre movie.
You thought they showed cartoons didn’t you
Michael’s car for those who are new to the journey is his passion and has been for the last 9 years. His face just shines and he has the biggest smile on his face when anything is going on with that car. Visitors are escorted quick smart down the polished hallway to the garage where they disappear for an hour or so while the girls open and pour their own drinks merrily chatting girl stuff (whinging, crying, laughing, nibbling) you think the boys would have learnt by now to eat first as we don’t leave them much.
When his dad after an illness passed away he inherited a bit of money. Michael declared that we could take the children on a European holiday. Such a great thought that would have made memories for sure and values in reminiscing for the next quarter century.
Do you notice that when people go overseas they rabbit on about it for the next 30 years, like nothing changes.
Yes I am cranky as I haven’t been anywhere aside from over the ditch to New Zealand
So I thought for a millisecond or two and suggested that the money would be better spent on something that he has always wanted and may not have another opportunity to do and that is to spend the next 20 years on.
- Redesigning, a car
It would be something for him from his dad and is concrete has a monetary value attached and with any luck increases in process not decreases.
One day I come to regret that but hold that thought
So he investigated and decided that was a sound idea and bought a 65 Mustang in working order, a bit dodgy perhaps but it drove okay, got him to the shops and back, I think I even had a ride in his car once or twice.
A milestone weekend he is up to painting that ruddy car that he loves so much, the first coats have gone on but were troublesome and it didn’t live up to his perfectionism. This weekend while I was at the Perth Writers Festival he added more coats after re-sanding over the last couple of weeks and he has even managed a few clear coats.
Next will be the white strip down the middle so look out, however I am sure we have another couple of painful years ahead of us as he tackles the interior. Not that I am COMPlAINING much as it keeps him out of my hair.
I had a great discussion on FB
stalk book about what we were going to name this car and my friend came up with the perfect name of Fanta Pants.
I mentioned this to Michael after I sensed his mood and it went something like this.
‘Michael, my friends and I have come up with a name for your car’. Note I am not a dobber and didn’t name my source.
He looked at me with that smirk planted on his face.
‘Really and what would that be’.
‘No I already have a name’.
‘What’s that then’.
That would be BLUE’.
‘Yeah right very original Michael’.
Well it’s the Aussie name for a ginger and my car is orange.
‘Fair enough, but I’m still going to call it FANTA PANTS’.
