The Writers Circle posted a 30-day challenge, that’s 30 weeks of writing prompts for me, not 30 days, here’s the first.
5 Problems With Social Media
I can talk about this till the cow’s come home. I have issues, go figure. When there is unpopular unfavourable news, that social media get a hold of and talk like the words written are the truth and nothing but the truth. Same with photos that I notice are rebadged for the outrage of the time. Sinful people sinful and for the gullible, not a sceptic/cynic like me.
Hearing some news I liken to stepping on a shit infested landfill site that’s slippery and full of holes, not to mention stinky and ready to swallow and trip you up, how you tell the rights from the wrongs, beats me. Is it not for those responsible to report and inform, no I am not referencing journalists in general, maybe a few that let that industry down. Also I would rather the truth without the drama-inflicted tones (TV/Radio), possibly asking too much.
Social media has led to a few bloggers being deleted from my feed for their inappropriate click baiting posts.
I am happier for it and have shifted the focus of my feeds, mostly on reading and writing blogs, and a few blogs of friends.
A particular incident that got right under my skin (My fault I let it) was, when a member of parliament spouted that Christians needed to be the first people to be extradited from a conflict during the ongoing refugee crisis. I had listened to most of the speakers, on the radio, TV interviews, read a few half-truthed newspaper articles. Listened to the specifically drama worded TV news feeds.
His silly comment is easily taken out of context if you don’t listen to the whole argument and his reasoning, despite its stupidity. You mostly heard only half of the story, which of course created a furore as was intended.
One hopes that it wasn’t quite what he meant to say, some minder or speech writer may have f….d up. His comment was prompted, as Christians were being targeted and murdered at a rapid pace. He was trying to say that these people needed to be rescued first and the others then to follow, as the Christians were the most vulnerable. Not meaning to leave others behind (as was insinuated), he foolishly was prioritising, rightly or wrongly, I know.
Yes everyone needed to be saved regardless of his or her race, colour, religion, age, culture or disability. No one in their right mind would discriminate would they? Nazi’s spring to mind, so nothings changed, people are persecuted and it’s wrong we all know that. Say I from my ivory tower seated in a reasonably safe lucky country whom is also a blow in from another country. I haven’t fled a war, poverty, political unrest, communism, but, ridiculous interest rates, rising crime and just a crazy mother. How dare I ….
Politician’s inappropriate comment that spewed forth from his mouth
Surely that would be political suicide
Was he tired, overwhelmed, not thinking straight
Had his team and their ignorance dug a hole for him on purpose
This isn’t the first hiccup and won’t be the last; history is littered with inappropriate politicians mumblings. Those with passion and drive for a cause won’t necessarily see the wood for the trees, and who is to say they should.
Everyone has a right to an opinion, to think, express how he or she feels, speak, debate, question, ask, query. Let’s also acknowledge rights to respect others and their opinions without decking them.
It’s very easy to tune out listening or reading to the ill informed and social media and media in general. From where I sit it’s scattered with miss-information or half-truths that gain benefits for them or their cause, leads to confusion and means that I need to delve further to uncover the full story not what the media is leading me to believe. Such a flipping cynic!
My life motto is do not assume or judge as it makes an ass –out-off-u-and-me
Some forms of media interpreters
It is a fire in the belly for some who are suited and driven for news making; others are driven to feed of the feeds. I am weary and sad for those that are not finding social media fun, safe or friendly. Some feeds are full of campaigns, social comments that are posted not to encourage respectful conversation, debate and opinions but to breed ignorance, hatred and potentially fear. Oh and then their are the trolls!
You can choose to read or not read that feed, there’s that button on the top right hand side of our computer it says DELETE
Of course I could have simplified the post and just laid bare the 5 but where is the fun in that
1. You can hide behind words and become a troll should your heart desire
2. You can create memories, inform, educate and share the love
3. You can spruick your business and that of others, sharing and caring
4. You can stay in contact with loved ones family and friends far and wide
5. Those who are insecure can spy on everyone else and increase their insecurities
Wasn’t exactly 5 was it, but that would be too long to read and if you haven’t already deleted me thanks for reading.
Next week my earliest memory, maybe not so controversial
